“It’s been a historic year for soccer in Delaware. Anthony Fontana became the first Delaware player to sign a professional contract with the Philadelphia Union, scores on his debut and now this appointment for Jon Scheer.
Philadelphia Union appoints Jon Scheer
Jon Scheer has been named the Union’s new Director of Talent Identification. Jon’s new position is one of the most influential positions in US Soccer at the moment, particularly given the Philadelphia Union’s youth policy on promoting their players to the first-team. These young players are not only the Union’s future, but by extension also the future of our US National team. It’s a big job” noted DEFC Technical Director, Ian Hennessy.
“We have developed a great working relationship with the Philadelphia Union. We continue to identify and develop players for their Academy, but also to mentor, develop and link some of our young coaches to a professional pathway in coaching, and Jon is a great example of this. Like Fontana, he is blazing a pathway” added Hennessy.
Finally Hennessy commented “We will continue to see Jon around DEFC games, just in a new capacity. I am also sure that if you see him at the Union Stadium he would love if you stopped by and said hello. I think that part of his personality was a big draw in the Union hiring him”.
