Delaware FC is proud to welcome back Dave Scruggs as the club’s new Zone 2 Director of
Coaching, as well as the Delaware FC South Director of Coaching. Starting in June 2024, Dave will
oversee the professional coaching staff and overall player development of the clubs’ top
athletes in the U13-U19 Boys & Girls age groups, as well as the new expansion in the Cape
Henlopen area.

Dave holds a USSF “A” License, a USYS National Youth License, and a United Soccer Coaches
National Coaching Diploma.

A native of Newark Delaware, Dave played soccer for the Kirkwood Soccer Club as well as the
Delaware ODP program. As a youth player, he earned selections to both the Region 1 ODP
team, as well as a selection to the USYS National Team Player pool. Dave is a graduate of
Glasgow High School where he was a four-year All-State selection and earned
Regional-All-American, and National All-American honors. Dave was also named the 1999
Delaware High School State Player of the Year, and the 1999 Gatorade Player of the Year. Dave
went on to play collegiately for Yavapai College, in Prescott AZ.

In the early 2000s Dave began his coaching career working with the Kirkwood Soccer Club, and
shortly after was hired as a full-time staff coach for Hockessin Soccer Club (currently Delaware
FC). From 2004-2009 Dave was a key part in the development and new direction which helped
shape the club into its present form.

For the past 15 years, Dave has worked in Virginia in several leadership roles: Technical Director
for AC Norfolk/Norfolk United Soccer Club from 2009-2011; Director of Coaching Education for
Loudoun Soccer (the largest youth soccer club in Virginia, with over 16,000 annual player
registrations and nearly 2,000 coaches) from 2011-2021; and most recently as the U11/U12
Academy Director for Virginia Valor FC. Dave has influenced and impacted thousands of players
and coaches through these positions.
