2024 FALL RECREATIONAL PROGRAM INFORMATION

DIVISION INFORMATION:

Discovery Program: U4 (2021), U5 (2020), U6 (2019) -This program is designed to introduce basic soccer skills or build on players skills in a fun environment.  Coaches will introduce a new skill each week for players to develop and will then reinforce the skill through soccer related games and activities.  Our U3/U4 age groups will always end with activities centered around scoring goals and our older U5/U6 ages will conclude with 4v4 scrimmages.

Under 8 (2018-2017): 4 on the field at a time – two simultaneous, side by side games – NO GOALIES (4v4). Max Roster of 12 We offer both Boys and Girls divisions. Players begin to understand positions on the field and continue to work on dribbling and shooting. Passing become more important at this level as the field size increases. All out of bounds restarts will start with a kick-in. A referee is assigned to each game to manage the game. Coaches run practice one night each week starting at this division. Games consist of 2 20 minute halves with 5 minutes for warmup, 5 minutes in between halves, and 5 minutes to clean-up after the game. Under 10 (2016-2015): 6 on the field plus one goalie (7v7). Max Roster of 12 We offer both Boys and Girls divisions. Goalies and throw-ins are introduced. A referee is assigned to each game to manage the game. Coaches run one practice each week. Games consist of two 25 minute halves with 5 minutes for warmup, 5 minutes for half time, and 5 minutes to clean-up after the game. Under 12 (2014-2013): 8 on the field plus one goalie (9v9). Max Roster of 16 We offer both Boys and Girls divisions. If there are enough “in-house” teams all games will be on Saturdays at Middletown Village.  If there are less than 6 teams the teams will play in the DYSA Inter-league.  Some travel is required.  A referee is assigned to manage the game. Coaches run one practice each week. Games consist of two 25 minute halves with 5 minutes for warmup, 5 minutes for half time, and 5 minutes to clean-up after the game. Under 14 (2012-2011): 10 on the field plus one goalie with 30 minute halves (11v11). Max Roster of 18 We offer both Boys and Girls divisions. This division participates in the DYSA Interclub league. Practice is held once or twice a week. Home games will be played at Middletown Village. Away games may be held in Dover, Hockessin, New Castle, Wilmington. A referee is assigned to manage the game. Games consist of two 35 minute halves with 5 minutes for warmup, 10 minutes for half time, and 5 minutes to clean-up after the game. Senior Divisions (2006-2010): 10 on the field plus one goalie with 35 minute halves (11v11). Max Roster of 18 We offer both Boys and Girls divisions. This division participates in the DYSA Interclub league. Every player is expected to play 50% of every game unless by their own choice or a parent’s request. We do our best to keep team sizes limited to guarantee that every player can get 50% playing time. However, over the years we have received equally as much feedback about teams with too few players (even when the team is at max recommended team size) and teams with too many, Due to vacations and other conflicts not all players show up every week which can leave teams shorthanded. We also have about 10-15% of registrations after the late fee date starts, so this can be a significant number of players in a division. We typically we need to create two teams at a time to make scheduling work which can then make team sizes too small. Our Board Members and Commissioners do everything we can to make this work out for everyone involved. Practices may begin as early as September 2nd. Practice days and times preferences are picked when registering to be a coach.
Practice schedules are determined by the coaches based on field, day and time availability. Early in the season, daylight is still limited, so practice schedules may need to be adjusted, but all of this will be determined by the coaches based on field availability.

PRACTICES:

For U8+, each coach will conduct at least one practice each week, typically on the same day and time. Coaches will select their practice time and location based on field availability and what works best for their schedule.

GAME DAY INFORMATION:

For U8-U10, all games are played on Saturdays between 9 AM and 2 PM (ending times may vary depending on the number of teams in each division).

For U12+, all games are played on Saturdays between 9AM and 4PM. The number of home and away games vary by team.
